One two-month cruise through Australia was terminated days after the fatal incident of an senior lady who was abandoned by the vessel on a remote coastal location.

The elderly woman had been trekking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the vessel, but parted ways from the party for a pause. The ship sailed away leaving her and came back several hours later after the ship staff discovered the passenger was missing.

A major rescue mission found her remains the following day.

Authorities are looking into the incident, together with police and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator announced that guests and staff on the vessel were notified that the remainder of the cruise had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and prior mechanical issues".

Via official communication, he mentioned that passengers would be provided a total repayment, and said the operator was working "to organize the homeward trips of the travelers via chartered flights".

Officials also published an revised statement, and said they had "delivered a order to the Master" prohibiting any additional guests from entering the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would attend the ship in Cairns upon its coming back.

"They requested her to return, unescorted. Then the ship departed, reportedly without conducting a roll call.

"At some stage in that sequence, or soon after, mother died, alone."

Operator Reaction

In a statement, the Chief Executive confirmed that the operator was "collaborating extensively with officials to aid their examination".

He mentioned that the company was "very regretful that this has happened" and had extended its complete assistance to the family.

The ship accommodates up to 120 guests with nearly fifty crew, according to corporate details. It was specifically designed to enter distant areas of the nation's shoreline and is equipped with "tenders" - compact vessels used to transport travelers on shore trips.
